Seating
The most important piece of furniture in the Roman home was the bed, which doubled as a couch, and was used for sleeping, dining, and even writing. The couch was generally a wooden frame supported with criss-cross leather straps that held a stuffed mattress. Couches were often highly decorated, and the upholstery was made of comfortable and colourful fabrics.

Chairs were also common, beginning as simple stools and folding stools. The stool, or sella, was backless. The bench, or subsellium was similar to a stool, but could sit more than one person. Chairs with a back and arms - solium, were used by the master of the house when receiving business visitors in the atrium. Later, an armless and more comfortable version of the solium, cathedra became more popular. Neither chairs were upholstered, but cushions and coverings were used.

Roman Chair
A foldable Roman chair made from polished wood. Original design also inspired from Asterix. A green cushion adds a slight amount of comfort, but generally such chairs aren't very comfortable.

Roman Folding Chair
Basically the deluxe Roman chair without the back of the seat, this chair would have been the typical style of many seatings, with its legs crossing each other. You do not have to have the sims deluxe to use.

White & Black Couch
A general purpose couch with white mattress and cushion, with a thick black stripe accented by yellow stripes, and complemented by two matching yellow bolster cushions. Frame made of a dark wood. Original design from HBO's Rome, in Octavian's palace (season 2).

Pink & Grey Couch
Couch with murex pink mattress and cushion, with embroidered gold stripe accents. Purple-grey cushion complements the pink mattress.Frame made of a dark wood. Mattress design from Servilia's tablinum in HBO's Rome. Recolour of the couch above.

Orange & Red Couch
A general purpose couch with orange mattress and cushion, with a red stripe accents. Frame made of a dark wood. Recolour of the couch above.

Grey & Yellow Couch
A general purpose couch with grey mattress and cushion, with a yellow and white stripe accents. Frame made of a dark grey marble. Recolour of the couch above. Design from a couch Maecenas reclines on in HBO's Rome.

Green & Gold Couch
An expensive general purpose couch with luxurious green mattress and cushion, with a gold embroidered accents, and complemented by two matching cushions. Recolour of the couch above.

Red and Black Couch
A dining couch with a wooden frame lacquered with black, and red upholstery embroidered with gold stripes and patterns. Some red/black/gold cushions to match, and a draped beige cloth for some extra softness and comfort. Design inspired from one of Atia's dining couches in HBO's Rome.

Square Striped White Couch
Couch recolour of the square white couch below, for poorer sims. Simple orange-red and yellow cushions sit on a striped red upholstery.

Square Green Couch
A velvety green couch, same z base as the one below, but more extravagant, with brass frame. Comes with a white cushion with some geometrical patterns on it.

Square White Couch
A simpler couch design, and not too extravagant, but one that would still require a modest amount of money to pay for. With white upholstery on a wooden frame, and a pink cushion.

Fancy Orange Couch
A curved couch with wooden carved feet, with a luxurious purple cushion, silky green drapery and orange upholstery. It'd probably be considered ugly by today's standards, but back then, lots of colour was considered prettier. :-)

Purple Couch
A recolour from Rollo's triclinium set at Roman Sims. A soft purple mattress sits on a wooden frame, with orange cushions for comfort. Useful for dining, or perhaps just lounging around.

Wooden Couches
Three recolours of Christy's gorgeous red couch at Roman sims, but now with a wooden frame, and three different coloured cushions - red, green and purple. These can be used nearly anywhere, from the atrium, to the cubiculum and triclinium.

Ornate Green Couch
An ornate couch with dark carved wooden legs, and a soft dark green mattress with matching green and gold cushions to add a touch of elegance to the home. Impress visitors to your villa with this splendid couch. I found the original design for this couch in Gladiator while going through it for Roman designs, and changed the green colour, as it was a bit hard to place the colour of the couch in the movie.

Ornate Pink Couch
A very simple recolour of the green couch above, and exactly the same, but for it being in pink. I still prefer the green one though... maybe because it's my favourite colour :P Though it is under the 'Atrium' section, it could also be used for dining, sleeping or whatever else you may find it useful for. I personally might put it in a rich Roman matron's room :-).

Striped Orange Sofa
A comfortable sofa with an orange mattress and red cusions, two striped with white vertical lines. Design adapted from a history book. Available at the E-Group

Updated, so that the shading is more realistic, rather than flat like it was before.

Striped Pleb Bed
The poor could not afford much in their homes, and so had the bare minimum in terms of furniture. Most of their rooms were cramped and filthy. This shabby bed is an example of the type of quality furniture the plebeians had and their living conditions (and even this is too good for them!) Cloned from a couch, so the sims won't get the best night's sleep, but then, the plebeians in ancient Rome would also have had this same problem!

Maroon Dining Couches
Two maroon purple couches, one with two red and gold cushions. Both with a lovely shaped head that curves back, and brass leg supports that join a wood base, as well as a round cylinder red cushion with gold tassles.

Pink Triclinium Couch
A flat low couch, with bright pink upholstery, carved wooden trim, and delicate legs. Has a low back support, not so much for resting one's back against, but there for aethestic purposes.

Dark Blue Couch
A dark blue recolour of the maroon dining couches, but only one couch (I did not make a recolour of the couch with a cushion). Has a lovely shaped head that curves back, and brass leg supports that join a wood base, as well as a cylindrical sky-blue cushion with gold tassles.

Pink Ornate Bed
A lovely soft bed, with an ornately carved wooden frame. The mattress is dyed a deep pink colour, obtained from murex shells, and so would cost a pretty penny. This bed would be well suited in a female matron's cubiculum, especially with pink frescos and floors. E-Group only download.

Blue Ornate Bed
A lovely soft bed, with an ornately carved wooden frame. Luxurious, soft, dark blue upholstery sits on the frame, with a cylindrical cushion sitting at the head rest, and a soft white blanket resting on the bed, neatly folded up ready for use.

Cream Brown Bed
A request, this bed has been made into more neutral tones - peachy-apricot cream, with a brown cushion. The Romans didn't really use the more neutral tones often in their furniture, as they preferred rich, vibrant colours. However, this bed is still fairly attractive looking and functional.

Pink Double Bed
Finally a double bed! It took ages, and I don't think I'll do another for a while (maybe recolours, since they are easier). Roman beds were basically the same as a couch; often they were used for both reclining and sleeping. I know it should have a support board all along the bottom, but not putting it there makes things easier. :P

I spent a long time on this bed, and there are still a couple of imperfections which I couldn't fix, but as a whole, I think the bed looks good enough.
